Nutz was born in Hertfordshire in 1967. He was always good at art and drawing but as he never felt like he fitted in society, motorcycles have played a big part in Nutz's lifestyle. He was a rebel from an early age so never studied art of any kind. He says "thankfully my parents gave me lots of crayons as a child." So this must be where his talent sprung from.

He enjoys painting and as a youth, walls were his canvas. He used to design tattoos for his friends, but never really liked them as the ones his friends were getting done never looked much like the design that he had drawn.

At the age of 24, he finally gave in and started getting 'inked', this sparked an interest in the more technical side as Nutz thought he could refine the technique and do much better. So, eventually he progressed and bought his own tattoo machines and sterilizing equipment and began teaching himself how to tattoo. He practiced on his own legs and once he was confident enough, he practiced on his friends too.

He built himself up a portfolio or art, designs and photos of the tattoos he had done and eventually convinced one of the local tattoo studios to take him on. He stayed there for a few years until he had built himself a good reputation and decided to move on to bigger and better things. He was the main artist in the next studio in Hertford along side his girlfriend and body-piercer, Jackie.

They made a good team and in early 2005, decided to 'go for it' and open their very own studio. The rest, as they say, is history. Nutz may have become part of society a bit late in life. But, not only has he worked very hard to get where he is today, he has also had a lot of fun on the way. He says he enjoys all styles of tattoos and likes to think he is good at them all.His favorites are high detail work, portraits and horror work.He is has lots of influenced by the work of HR Giger.

When Nutz isn't tattooing in his studio in Ware, (Nutz Tattoo) he is on the road tattooing at conventions across the country and beyond. Check the convention listing for details.

Choosing Your Tattoo
There is no time limit for choosing a design. We have a comfortable waiting area
where you can browse through numerous design and reference books. Although the
artists may be occupied, he will be happy to speak to you in between clients and if more time is needed an appointment for a consultation can be made with the artist. The receptionists are very knowledgeable and will be able to answer most questions when the artist is not available.

Cost of your Tattoo
Although cost is inevitably a question, it is not wise to let this dictate your choice of design. The cost of a tattoo must be thought of in context. After all, how many other purchases do you make that will be with you for the rest of your days? It never fails to amaze me that some people will spend hundreds of pounds on a
single outfit of clothing, but shout at the idea of lavishing a fraction of that cost on that most precious of organs, their skin.

Making an appointment
Once your dream design has been chosen or created it is time for a bit of restraint and patience. It is not always possible that you will be able to have it done there and then. We cannot make appointments over the phone as a consultation and a small deposit will be required to hold your appointed time. Although this is non refundable; it is deductible from the cost of your finished tattoo. Your appointment may be changed given enough notice, or, if for some reason out of your control you cannot keep it. You will be expected to arrive in plenty of time to keep the appointment for your tattoo, a quarter of an hour in advance is sufficient.

Getting Tattooed
It is important to realise a few things before you get yourself tattooed. The process, although not excruciating, is none the less sometimes uncomfortable. The act of getting tattooed is a two way street, and artist & client must cooperate very closely to achieve the best results. Listen carefully to the artists advice, he is very experienced and has a lot to offer over and above his artistic talents. Distractions, such as bringing friends, are usually unhelpful as they will not be with you in the chair and from the waiting area will not be able to empathize with your feelings and may even undermine your confidence, which can play a large part in how you handle the process. Also taking any drugs including alcohol are more likely to distort your perception of pain and reduce your ability to communicate with your tattoo artist, which as we have already said is of paramount importance. Try to arrive in a relaxed frame of mind. Make sure you don't have to rush from, and back too work. The tattoo you are about to receive will be with you to the grave and is worth giving up a day for. Also, have a good meal a couple of hours before your appointment, and arrive a good 15 minutes prior to your appointment. The artist sees it as part of his job to put you at ease, if you feel uncomfortable about something, let him know. It is in his interest too for you to be in a good frame of mind and will facilitate the process for both yourself and the tattoo artist. Our prices may not be the cheapest around but this reflects the high professional standards to which we operate, and you can be safe in the knowledge that your piercing or tattoo has been carried out by a true professional in our field.
